Buy at any convenience store for β©4,000, load cash at subway machines. Tap on/off buses, subways, and most taxis. Saves you from buying individual tickets every time.
Google Maps has poor transit routing in Korea β bus schedules are often wrong. Naver Maps (λ€μ΄λ² μ§λ) has an English UI and real-time bus tracking. Download before you land.
Shows fare upfront, in-app card payment, shareable ride link. Essential since most drivers don't speak English and Korean addresses can be confusing. Uber also works in Korea as an alternative.
Most restaurants accept cards. Street food stalls prefer cash. ATMs are everywhere β look for Woori Bank or Shinhan Bank "Global ATM" for foreign cards without extra fees.
Expect 28β35 Β°C (82β95 Β°F) with high humidity. The subway and COEX are heavily air-conditioned β bring a light layer. Convenience stores sell cold drinks for β©1,000β2,000.
"μ΄κ±° μ£ΌμΈμ" (igeo juseyo) β "This one, please."
"μΌλ§μμ?" (eolmayeyo) β "How much?"
"κ°μ¬ν©λλ€" (gamsahamnida) β "Thank you."
Even a small attempt goes a long way.
Get a data SIM or pocket WiFi at the Incheon Airport arrivals hall. Korea has excellent 5G everywhere. A 10-day SIM is ~β©20,000β30,000.
Many restaurants close for break time from ~3β5pm. If the door is locked mid-afternoon, check the posted hours. Convenience stores are your friend during these gaps.
Wait for elders to eat first. Don't stick chopsticks upright in rice. Eating from shared dishes is normal. Slurping noodles is fine β it shows you're enjoying the food.
